Jeremy’s hands trembled slightly as he turned the worn pages of the spell book, the lingering smell of burnt hair filling the air. His heart pounded in his chest as he glanced at the aftermath of the spell—scorch marks on the table and a faint shimmer of energy still hanging in the room. He couldn’t believe he had actually gone through with it.
"Dude, what did you do?" Frank’s voice was a mix of disbelief and barely contained laughter from across the room. "I only dared you to try it."
Jeremy shot him a glare, his face flushed with embarrassment. "You said it was easy!"
Frank chuckled, shaking his head. "Yeah, for someone who knows what they're doing."
Jeremy’s eyes fell back on the book, now dreading the consequences of his failed attempt. The spell had sounded harmless enough when Frank had dared him to try it, but the surge of energy that had exploded from his fingertips told a different story.
